School News –March 2022

It was a sunny start into March 2022 in school. Maryborough NS welcomed all the children back after February Mid-Term break. It was great to come back with a relaxed approach to Covid-19 measures in school with mask-wearing being optional in school for both children and staff. It was lovely to see their smiling faces again! We thank the children for being so resilient and compliant with mask-wearing for the month of January and February.

Before we broke for mid-term we finally produced our school play ‘Lights, Camel Action’ and it was a HUGE success. The recording of the play was released to parents via Aladdin and it was a production enjoyed by all. Well done to all the children and staff involved. A HUGE thank you to the 6th Class girls who organised the creativeness of the set, costumes and dances! A special mention to 6th Class who carried the show as the main characters. Your talent is incredible and we are so lucky to have you as part of our school this year.

Cumann na mBunscoil resumed for 5th and 6th Class. They are participating in the Football (GAA) league this year against various schools across the county. They are training very hard and they are really enjoying being back on the field and meeting and playing with other schools and children. It has been a long wait and we wish both boys and girls in 5th and 6th Class every success in the league and we remind them of the importance of just taking part and having fun!

Ms Gow’s Tidy up Team met again on Tuesday the 1st of March to carry out some beautiful work around the school and we are extremely grateful to those parents who are involved-our school is looking great! Ms Gow and the Parent’s Association hope to hold a one-off clean up evening around the school in April after completing a checklist around the school of what needs to be tidied up! We encourage as many parents as possible to help out with this initiative to sustain our fabulous-looking school!

The Parent’s Association are organising a Clothing Collection in the school on the 14th of March. Bags may be dropped at the gate on the week of the 7th of March and a pupil/staff member will bring them into the school. Donations from the clothing collection will go towards the Laura Lynn Children’s Hospice which is a fantastic charity. Money raised from the clothing collection will go towards Zumba lessons for the senior classes after Easter! The children are really looking forward to it. We thank the Parent’s Association for organising this fundraiser and we ask all parents to support it if they can-a great excuse for a ‘Spring Clean!’

As we get back to living a little more normally these days, we take a moment to give thanks to God for helping us and being there for us over the last couple of months and we are thankful that we are all healthy, happy and safe. We look forward to exciting activities in school now in the month of March such as the arrival of our Book Fair for World Book Day-a fantastic time to get back into reading a take a break from the screens!
