Maryborough Boys Football Team Make History!!
A very exciting year for our Boys Cumann na mBunscol Football team as they made it to their first Final in Maryborough history!!! What an amazing achievement and hopefully a wonderful memory that the boys will look back on with great pride in years to come. The boys worked hard to get to the final with countless training sessions, practice games and competitive matches with neighbouring schools. Their commitment and dedication to the team was exceptional and they represented our school extremely well. Unfortunately, it wasn’t our day but the boys fought hard until the end and really gave it their all. We are extremely proud of them!! They all received a medal on the day and our goalkeeper Ahmad received the Fair Play Award which is amazing. A great end to the season!!
FAI Blitz!!
Well done to the Boys A soccer team on making it to the FAI Laois Finals in Killeshin FC on Wednesday 10th April. The boys played three games back-to-back, there was some tough competition but we held our own. Unfortunately, the results didn’t favour us but the boys played their hearts out. Well, done to all involved!!!
‘Run Around Europe’ Challenge
‘Run Around Europe’ was a whole-school running challenge open to all primary and special schools. This challenge ‘ran’ from February 26th-March 22nd. The initiative focused on participation, inclusion and fun with lots of learning opportunities along the way. All classes, at all class levels were challenged to build a ‘Run a Day’ into their daily routines across the 4 weeks of the challenge. Pupils enjoyed this challenge immensely and made sure that it took place everyday even if teachers forgot! Working together as a school, our combined km brought us to PARIS!!! Well done to each and every pupil and teacher who tried so hard during the challenge.
Playground Leaders
As part of the Active Schools Flag and working towards our Active Flag we have implemented our Playground Leaders. Twice a week 5th and 6th class set up active stations on the yard during the junior end lunchtime. Pupils enjoy this as they get to interact with others and they can also learn from one another. Our stations are chosen by the Active Flag Committee, some of our stations have included: skipping, racing, over/under ball game, red light green light, duck duck goose, hoop throws and many more. Take a look at the huge smiles during Playground Leaders time…

Active Schools
Maryborough has decided that we need to get more active so this year we adopted the initiative ‘Active Schools’.
Did you know? Children are supposed to be active for 60 minutes in their school day. 40 minutes of this is their lunchtime, however 20 minutes of exercise must be incorporated into their class time.
Each teacher with their class decided on an active timetable that would suit them to allow for this extra 20 minutes of exercise. Each timetable has running, dancing and exercises on it! The children are really enjoying getting active everyday!
Meet the committee who made all of this happen! Our committee consists of:
1st Class: Millie
2nd Class: Darragh
3rd Class: Mercy
4th Class: Emily
5th Class: Pola
6th Class: Heidi and Alex
Watch this space for updates! Let’s get Maryborough Moving!!!
