A HUGE well done to the girls in 5th and 6th Class for reaching the Cumann na mBunscol Roinn 4 Final I’m O Moore Park. The girls played exceptionally well on the day and they really enjoyed the participation of the Cumann na mBunscol league! Well done girls. We are so proud of you all!
Our 1st class, 2nd class, 5th class, and 6th class have been taking part in a Lego hour once a week since September. Each week they were given a theme that linked with what they were working on in the classroom and they had to create something using the Lego based on that theme!
Miss Fitzgerald and Miss Grant were amazed and proud of what their classes produced and they thought it would be a good idea to show the rest of the school their hard work. The children were given the theme of Halloween and they had to create a haunted house/house to show the school. They worked very hard in their groups and were delighted at assembly on Friday to show their creations!
Each group had a chance to explain what they made and answer a few questions based on it. The 5th and 6th class were very patient and helpful with the 1st and 2nd class as they wrote their script and helped them to read it.
It was a fantastic few weeks of creativity and fun!
The 5th and 6th class boys have been training and preparing for the Cumann na mBunscol matches over the past couple of weeks. They are enjoying playing the matches against other schools and improving on their skills every week. Well, done to all the boys on a great effort, the teamwork and great sportsmanship displayed both at the matches and training is exceptional. Well, done boys!!

A very enjoyable sports day took place on the campus this week. Each class participated in three races; sprints, potato and spoon race and sack race. There was lots of laughing and falling down. We then had a parents race and a spontaneous teachers race which was very enjoyable for all… A huge thank you to Ms Gow for organising the events on the day. Also, a thank you to Ms Buggie and her wellbeing committee who organised a bouncy castle and an ice-cream van. Take a look at some of the shots taken on the day.
Ms Handcock’s and Ms Fitzgerald’s classes started buddy reading back in January. It is a great opportunity to introduce new vocabulary to the infants and to practice their reading. It gives the senior room the opportunity to be leaders and helpers among the junior classes. It helps to keep them connected and the junior room really enjoy having the “big kids” help them with their reading. Have a look below at some of the fabulous reading happening.
On Monday the 6th of March-5th and 6th Class participated in a soccer league/blitz for both boys and girls. Boys played in the Leisure Centre and the girls played in Portlaoise AFC. The children had a great day out whilst improving their soccer skills!! 2 teams got to the semi-final which was a great achievement for the school! Well done to all involved and to Miss Fitzgerald, Miss Handcock, Ms Gow and Christine for helping on the day! Check out the teams below!
On Tuesday 21st of February, 5th and 6th Class enjoyed some Pancakes!!! They played board games with each other whilst enjoying their Pancake! They were able to add their own toppings which made it all the more fun! They had a great afternoon! Check out some of the children enjoying their afternoon!
On Wednesday 25th of January, 5th Class got the opportunity to go Tree Planting. This initiative was led by the lovely Meabh who is working with the two other schools on the campus- Educate Together and Gaelscoil to plant 200 Trees in our woodland area. The children will return another day with Maeve for the mulching! The children really enjoyed themselves and learned all about different types of trees! They look forward to seeing them grow over the next year! Well done 5th Class!
