The Games Strand gets underway!!!
As part of our Active Flag initiative this year, we decided to focus on developing the delivery of the Games Strand in the school. Check out 1st and 2nd Class enjoying playing ‘Benchball’- a game that focuses of the fundamental skills of throwing and catching and Basketball. They loved it.
Infants to 2nd Class will get the opportunity to partake in the ABC Programme Laois GAA are providing for our school over in the Gaelscoil. Here more of the fundamental skills of movement will be taught. We are getting excited already!
Celí Mór!!!
On Thursday the 14th of March, we had a whole-school Celí. We decided to focus on the Dance Strand in PE and take up a Celí as an initiative for St Patrick’s Day, Seachtain na Gaeilge and Folk Dance. This event was organised by Miss Fitzgerald and Ms Buggie who had very interested children to teach. All of the children wore green in celebration of the event! The Infants danced to ‘The Stack of Barley’ while 1st to 6th Class danced the ‘Walls of Limerick’ and the ‘Siege of Ennis’. Each class performed a party piece along with this event.
Infants: We sang ‘I am a little leprechaun’.
1st and 2nd Class: We recited a poem ‘Lá Fhéile Pádraig’ and sang ‘Bábín Siorc’
3rd and 4th Class: We played the tin whistle.
5th and 6th Class: We acted out the play ‘Toy Story’ as Gaeilge.
It was a fantastic event held by all! The children got active and enjoyed learning Gaeilge at the same time! The ‘craic’ was had!!!
Teachers Get Active!!!!
As part of our Active Flag, not only do the children have to get active, the teachers do too!
This year the staff of Maryborough National School are focusing on developing their skills further in the ‘Games’ strand. We were lucky to get the chance to work with Peter Hally who trained us after school in Games. He taught us new skills and ideas and we had great fun! We enjoyed learning new ideas and skills to teach the wonderful children of Maryborough in their Physical Education Lessons!
Check us out hard at work! We loved it!
