Active Week 2024 has begun in Maryborough NS!!!!!!
Our Active Week was from 29th April to the 3rd of May. Our Active Flag Committee organised a ‘School Olympics’ which consisted of various events everyday chosen by our committee. Pupils and teachers have been enjoying wearing their tracksuits every day and look forward to a day in the local park when the weather picks up.
On Monday the weather did not ‘play ball’ therefore we adapted and swapped Relay Races for Dodgeball. Pupils were placed into teams at random and chosen to play each other. A point was given to the team who won each round. Pupils loved it and were very accommodating to our small pupils too!
On Tuesday the weather was sure to knock us down but again we adapted and held our Obstacle Course inside in our lovely Halla. Teams were given points based on their time overall, we had some very fast teams, one team even had a time of 5.28. Amazing teamwork and throwing skills from all!!
On Wednesday, the weather picked up and we headed outside to participate in Relay Races. Pupils again went head to head in the Relay Race, each team member had their own post and waited patiently for their teammate to pass them the baton to win the race. This was very competitive and it was great to see our senior pupils coach our junior pupils!!
On Thursday, pupils headed to our lovely yard area to compete in a Javelin throw. Once they had a demonstration they were ready for the challenge. Teams went head to head to see who could throw the Javelin the furthest. Amazing results especially from the junior end!!
On Friday we had our prize giving at assembly. We are extremely proud of all pupils as everyone got stuck in and enjoyed the week of events. A special mention to our Active Schools Committee for their organising and co-operation with Ms Handcock, without their help Active Week wouldn’t have been so enjoyable. Check out our winning team below, led by Blessing!
