Maryborough NS Newsletter March 2023
Spring has arrived! We are all delighted to see the brighter days and the stretch in the evenings. We have been reconnecting with nature over the last month. The children at the junior end of the school have gone on nature walks to spot the signs of spring. We have noticed flowers pushing through the soil, buds on trees, and life beginning to stir again.
5th class have been planting trees in conjunction with Laois County Council to create an even more beautiful campus. The children, along with children from Portlaoise Educate Together and Gaelscoil Phortlaoise, have been busy mulching the soil to prepare it for the new trees. Check out our school website for some action shots.
1st and 2nd class have also been learning about the life cycles of plants and observing seeds as the germinate and grow. There was great excitement when the seeds in the classroom began to sprout roots and shoots.
There have been lots of wonderful art projects happening in the school. We celebrated St Valentine’s Day during the mid-term and in preparation for this, love was a major theme of some of our art. Check out the photos on the First and Second Class page of the website to see what we have been up to and how unique each creation is. 3rd and 4th Class have been busy making clay creations which we are all very proud of.
5th and 6th Class have been focusing on well-being and have created some beautiful emoji art, which has really brightened our corridors.
We had some fantastic transition year students helping out in the school at the beginning of the month. Many thanks to Heidi Whitten, Shannon Roe and Joshua Bennett for helping out so enthusiastically in all the classes.
We are delighted to report that due to the success of the Christmas concert, where we were celebrating our school turning 125 years old, we have started to build our collection of ukuleles and guitars. The children are already showing off their musical talents with them.
We are all looking forward to World Book Day in March, and to celebrating Seachtaine na Gaeilge in the school with some great activities planned.
We won’t feel it until Easter is upon us and we are looking forward to the excitement it brings.
