October ended wonderfully here in Maryborough. All of the children dressed up in both scary and fun costumes for Halloween on Friday 22nd of October. They had a wonderful day! The Parent’s Association kindly donated Party Bags for each child to enjoy. They were thrilled! We hope that each child and their families had a safe and restful Halloween break.
Junior and Senior Infants presented Assembly on our last Friday of Term 1. They sang the beautiful song-‘All Things Bright and Beautiful’ and wowed the rest of the school! Well done Junior and Senior Infants-you will all be performers some day!
1st to 4th Class have been chosen to partake in ‘PickerPals’ initiative by Laois County Council. Laois County Council will fund the pickers, certs and many additional activities to keep our school and homes litter-free! Each child will take home a litter picker every weekend and clean up at home so that Portlaoise can stay litter-free! The children will receive a certificate for their engagement in this initiative! Best of luck 1st to 4th Class!
5th and 6th Class competed in a Rugby Blitz on the 18th of October in Portlaoise Rugby Club. They were brilliant and they did the school so proud! Well done 5th and 6th Class-we certainly have a few rugby professionals here in Maryborough! 5th and 6th Class also finished up with their Climate Change Workshops via Zoom with Declan. This workshop was organised by Midlands Science and the children have learned so much! They all completed projects on Electric Cars-their projects are displayed in the school for everyone to see!
November is a wonderful month in preparation for the new season of Winter. Winter is a season where we all can wind down on those dark evenings and enjoy hot drinks and cosy fires in our homes. This is something to be thankful for. We think of all of the animals that enter into Hibernation at this point in the calendar.
We will leave you with this beautiful poem about Creation and all that we can be thankful for. This poem was composed by Mercy Ogunleye in 6th Class. It is a wonderful poem-Thank you Mercy.
God created the sun so we can have summer fun.God created the moon so we will know when it’s noon.
God created the animals so we will have some as pets. God created dogs – they can play fetch.
God created schools so we won’t act like fools.God created trees so they can flow with the breeze.
God created flowers so they can grow with rain showers.God created everything with his love so we can worship his son up above.
His son died for us on the cross. Still, we do bad things that we know are false.
Help us God to do right doings, so we know that you’ll bring more nice things.
