Inter-school Hockey Blitz’24
On Wednesday 27th November 2024, Laois Hockey Club in conjunction with Laois Sports Partnership and Hockey Ireland, invited our school to participate in their annual hockey school blitz for primary schools in Laois.
Ms. Gow, Mr. Healy and Irina along with our wonderful 3rd,4th and 5th class pupils joined together with several other schools from surrounding Laois areas and proudly flew the Maryborough NS flag for us at the Astro Turf at Laois Leisure, Portlaoise for a day of fun. We were delighted to meet with the staff and pupils of Abbeyleix South School, Sandylane NS, and Clonenagh NS.
Pupils participated in a fun warm up session with the leaders and organisers, followed by a few drills and then 7+ aside matches for two age groups 5th/6th class and 3rd/4th class. With many schools just commencing their hockey program for the year ahead, the emphasis again was on participation, learning and fun! The club provided coordinators, umpires, equipment and a yummy goodie bag. Thank you!
We were lucky to have been able to bring along our own hockey equipment pack previously provided to our school by Hockey Ireland. Of course, all participants had to wear their gumshields and shin guards.
We would like to say a special word of thanks to Johnny Walshe would liaised with us as coordinator for the blitz. And indeed, a huge thank you to all the team of volunteers who made it such a fun experience. We have to say the pupils did our school proud! Some great talent, perseverance and skill there!! Well done Maryborough NS, you gave it everything!
