School News – January 2022

December was an extremely busy month in Maryborough NS. There were lots of arts and crafts, tin-whistle playing and songs being sung throughout the whole school it was truly magical.

Christmas Jumper Day was on the 10th of December and money collected was given to St Vincent de Paul. Thank you to all the parents who contributed to this charity. It is much appreciated.

We had a very special guest visit us here in Maryborough on a huge sleigh. It was SANTA CLAUSE! He wished all of the children a very Merry Christmas. The children were so excited. They got to watch Santa head off on his sleigh and sing Christmas songs. Santa Clause was collecting money for Temple Street Children’s Hospital.

The Parent’s Association organised a Christmas Colouring Competition. Each class from Junior Infants to 6th Class received a colouring sheet. Each colouring sheet was differentiated and labelled with a number. We then had the absolute pleasure of Rev. Alec judging the competition and picking a winner from each class. The Parent’s Association organised the prizes. It was a tough competition but the children loved taking part. Thank you to the Parent’s Association and Rev. Alec for being part of this.

Mr Hickey, Miss Handcock and Ms Gow were busy in December giving each child a tree to plant around the school. This was really special as the children may like to return to Maryborough NS in a couple of years’ time and spot their tree! Thank you to the teachers involved for this initiative. The children loved being part of it.

3rd and 4th Class have been musically busy practising their Christmas tunes on the tin whistle every day. Mr Healy recorded 3rd and 4th Class playing their tin whistles for parents. Well done 3rd and 4th Class-you are all fantastic musicians.

5th and 6th Class enjoyed a hot-chocolate afternoon with MARSHMALLOWS of course and some board games. It was a well-deserved treat after a fantastic term 2. Well done 5th and 6th Class.

Many parents, friends and children attended the beautiful Carol Service on the 19th of December in the Church. The children read and sang beautifully at the service. It was a very enjoyable evening.

Unfortunately, our Christmas Production of the Play ‘Lights, Camel Action’ had to be postponed. We will be recording this play at some stage in January to watch this space!

A big shout out to the on-going work by the parents of the ‘Maryborough Tidy Up Team’ for keeping our school looking wonderful!

January is a wonderful month to reflect on the giving and receiving that we experienced in December and a month to recharge the batteries and set goals to achieve for their year ahead.
