Healthy Lunchbox Competition!
The school has been looking at healthy eating and we were looking at what a healthy lunchbox might look like! Ms Buggie had a fantastic idea to run a competition to encourage all the children and staff to think about healthy lunches. The children had a few weeks to design and enter their idea of what a healthy lunch would look like. Last Wednesday on St. Valentine’s Day our winner was picked. Ms Buggie and her independent judges were torn over the entries, and 10 very lucky children were picked. Congratulations all and well done to everyone who entered.
January 2024 in 1st and 2nd Class
Oh Wow! January has been a very busy month, we started back with a wonderful Show-and-Tell, where the children had a chance to show the class their favourite toy. An amazing range of toys was brought in from Squishmellows, magnetic cars, and circuit boards!
We were delighted to start back at hurling and football training a after break over Christmas. The children are really improving on their GAA skills and it is great to see them so enthusiastic and excited every Monday and Tuesday!
Our classroom has been very lucky as we have a wonderful student teacher with us! Ms Murphy has made herself at home and has brought so much fun into the classroom. We were busy creating dramas back on a story about Ireland, making beautiful fabric pictures and learning some folk dancing! We also made nameplates and created wonderful flower bowls with clay!
And last but not least the school has been very lucky to get some fiddles! The third and fouth classes have been helping us to learn how to play them. This has been a great learning experience.
December
What a month it has been! We were extremely busy in 1st and 2nd class. We painted beautiful snow globes while listening to some Christmas songs. We finished taking part in the Olympic Movement Breaks – Active Break Every Day Challenge with Dare to Believe as we are working towards our Active Flag. We were very lucky to have a surprise guest come to the school! Our elf was always up to trouble and was upsetting Ms. Grant and Irina! The children have enjoyed seeing what our elf did every morning. The children have improved their hurling and football skills with the help of their coaches. Lights, Camel, Action 2 was a great success and the children worked so hard on learning all the songs and dance moves. As a treat on the last week of school before the holidays we made polar bear sweets and we made hot chocolate! It was such a treat. We even had puppies visit our classroom. We would like to thank Christine for bringing them in. And finally, our elf and Ms. Handcock’s elf left us a treasure hunt on the day of our holidays, there was a lovely surprise at the end of it for us all!
1st and 2nd class, Ms. Grant and Irina would like to wish everyone a Happy Christmas and a very Peaceful New Year.

Science Week🧬🥼👩🏽🔬🧑🏻🔬🦠🧫🧪
1st and 2nd class were very busy this week. They were learning about the world of science!
On Tuesday, we tested out a range of markers to see which were the best to make a rainbow! We discovered the cheapest markers were the best!
On Wednesday, we tried to build the tallest free standing tower. We were only allowed one piece of paper, glue and a scissors. We all worked in groups and had so much fun testing our ideas! See the pictures for our wonderful creations!
On Thursday, we created lava lamps!! We used food colouring, a plastic bottle, water, vegetable oil and an alka seltzer tablet! We learned that oil is lighter than water but when the water and the tablet produce bubbles it will rise through the oil!!
For our last day of Science week, we were treated to a fantastic event in the library! We went to see the show “Volcanoes are Oresome!” We learnt about volcanoes and all about different types of rocks and fossils! We even got to taste salt stone crystals!
We have leant so much this week all about science!
Lego Showcase.
Our 1st class, 2nd class, 5th class, and 6th class have been taking part in a Lego hour once a week since September. Each week they were given a theme that linked with what they were working on in the classroom and they had to create something using the Lego based on that theme!
Miss Fitzgerald and Miss Grant were amazed and proud of what their classes produced and they thought it would be a good idea to show the rest of the school their hard work. The children were given the theme of Halloween and they had to create a haunted house/house to show the school. They worked very hard in their groups and were delighted at assembly on Friday to show their creations!
Each group had a chance to explain what they made and answer a few questions based on it. The 5th and 6th class were very patient and helpful with the 1st and 2nd class as they wrote their script and helped them to read it.
It was a fantastic few weeks of creativity and fun!
A Day Full of Fun
On Friday the 27th of October, 1st class and 2nd class had a very busy day!
Our Lego fun came to an end this term. We were very proud to display our haunted houses and other creations at assembly! We really had so much fun with the 5th class and 6th class as we built a range of wonderful things.
We tried something different today for maths! We played games, from counting eggs to guessing whether a number is higher or lower. It was a great way to practice our adding, counting, estimating and predicting skills.
We were also treated to some time in the local playground, it was so much fun playing together on the swings, see-saw and the zip-line! We cannot wait to go back.
A Very Busy 1st Term
We have had a very busy first term in 1st and 2nd class. We spent time getting to know each other! We got to draw portraits of each other. We are very lucky and get to spend time in the morning solving puzzles and playing games, sometimes the 6th class joins us!
Every Thursday 1st class is joined by the 6th class and the 2nd class goes up to the 5th class and we take part in a Lego challenge! Everybody has so much fun and we have seen such fantastic creations!
Ms. Grant helped us to prepare for our first time holding an assembly and it was great! We worked so hard and learned a friendship poem and drew pictures of all our friends.
We also had to get ready for our first annual Multi-Culture Day! We created a massive jigsaw that had our all countries’ flags in it. We have 18 different cultures in our classroom. It was such an enjoyable day and we cannot wait for the next one.
The whole school took part in our sponsored walk which was to raise money for our new Interactive Board.
Last week was maths week and we had so much fun. We got to try a tricky puzzle every morning and we also joined two webinars for the occasion. We really enjoyed the Table Quiz webinar, over 4,000 different classrooms took part. We hope we win a prize.
Ms. Grant is really brave and gave us each a tin whistle! We are learning so much and practicing really hard. We know our parents are really loving listening to us!
This week has been just as busy as we got to start GAA coaching. We had so much fun with our new coaches.
